Our favorites

Our favourite sustainable wines.

Wines Sandra recommends, some from the pages of her book and more besides — so you have somewhere to start. Find one by grape, style or country, and see how each producer farms.

Start with what you are drinking.

Six kinds of wine, every one of them carrying what its producer has been held to — an audited scheme, an organic or biodynamic practice, or nothing at all, said plainly. Pick a type; the filters are waiting inside it.

Red

Grouped by style rather than by region.

Big and Bold · Fresh and Fruity · Rich and Concentrated

White

Fresh and crisp through to rich and rounded.

Fresh and Crisp · Rich and Expressive · Soft and Elegant

Rosé

Red grapes pressed off their skins early.

Sparkling

Traditional method and tank, mostly non-vintage.

Orange

White grapes left on their skins.

Sweet

Late harvest, botrytis and fortified.

What the words mean.

Natural, organic, biodynamic, sustainable — not interchangeable, and only some of them can be certified against a single standard. The guide sets out all six.
